I am a new to commodities trading. I have a situation I need some advice on. I have a friend who has an allocation for up to 80 million bbls per year of crude oil. It was actually brought to me from another friend. We have been looking for buyers and recently another friend got involved and has brought in 5 people including a trader that has a potential buyer. They have spoken to my contact and feel comfortable this is a legitimate deal. I hear you never know, though, in this industry. I have some questions.
1. How good of a price is platt -6?
2. Is there a typical commission split among intermediaries?
3. Have you had any experience structuring these commission splits? I now have the buying group that wants to split everything equally, plus extra shares for the trader who will bring the buyer. It seems to me they are undervaluing the seller side representation.
4. Does anyone here or will anyone here provide consulting?
5. Does anyone here know any good international commodities trading attorneys or traders I can talk to?
There is a significant amount of money at stake here and want to ensure I do my homework. Please provide any help. It would be greatly appreciated.
Have you spoken to anyone at Platts about some referrals. I personally don't know anything about buying and selling physical crude but there is a lot of quality people following Platts over on twitter. You might poke around there.
